Huntington High Kicks off Spring with "The Addams Family" Musical

“The Addams Family” Broadway Musical Offers Humorous Take on Life at Huntington High beginning April 6
Posted on 03/30/2017

The members of the Addams family seem peculiar to most “normal” people. However, to these somewhat ghoulish characters, “outsiders” are the ones who are abnormal.

Their unique, but somewhat macabre outlook, known well to millions who grew up watching the family on television, has been infused into a lively Broadway musical now being presented by Huntington High School’s Theater Department.

The Addams Family musical will be performed Thursday, April 6; Friday, April 7; Saturday, April 8; and Saturday, April 15 at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, April 9; and Saturday, April 15 at 3:00 PM.  Tickets are $5.00 for students and seniors; and $10.00 for adults. The show will be performed in the Huntington High School auditorium.

The Addams Family Authors Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, and lyricist and musician Andrew Lippa, reveal Morticia’s and Gomez’s worst nightmare: their children have grown up. Even worse, Wednesday, now eighteen, has fallen in love with a normal boy, Lucas Beineke, from Ohio of all places. Wednesday invites his regular family to dinner and things become wild. Secrets are spilled and the Addams family might just have to accept that they might have to change.

Senior Laurel Mooney plays Grandma Addams, a spunky and carefree lady. When asked how the production was going so far, she replied, “I think the show is going well. Our vocals seem to be strong. Everyone in the cast gets along, which is nice. I think it’ll be my favorite show I’ve done.”

Junior Lauren Young plays Alice Beineke, the mother of Lucas. When asked about auditions and how the first read-through went, she answered, “Auditions were the best I’ve experienced. Everyone did their best and didn’t perform poorly. For the read-through, it was fun and the best I’ve been to. The show has been cast well and we support one other. We save the drama for the stage.”
